Frequently asked questions.

What is coaching exactly?

Coaching is a person-centered approach to helping you reframe, shift mindsets, and redefine yourself and your situations. As your coach, I act as a thinking partner for those stuck in their stories and perceptions. I help you think more broadly of yourself, beyond your blinding fears, inherited beliefs, and half-baked assumptions that limit possible actions.

Coaching is a partnership designed to help you maximize your health and well-being. Think of me as your boat captain getting you from where you are now - Island A, past all the obstacles - the shark fins instilling fear, and arriving where you want to be - Island B. And in less time than going solo.

Is coaching like counseling or therapy?

Counseling is to counsel or give advice. While I do provide resources when requested, I will never tell you what to do. Your autonomy is vital.

Therapy is a helpful tool to heal your past.

In contrast, coaching is non-advisory, solution-focused, and designed to move you forward rather than dwelling on the past.

Will I cry?

Maybe. Changing old behaviors can sometimes bring up uncomfortable emotions. I welcome tears just as much as I welcome laughter. Being comfortable with uncomfortable is where BIG changes can happen.

What can I expect from you as my health coach?

  • To meet you wherever you are in your journey and respect your vision as you move forward. Life can get messy, and you may forget your dream. I never will.

  • To support you without judgments. I’ve been there. I get it.

  • To be your thinking partner. Think of coaching as a large tree, examining all the branches, not just the ones you have been holding on to.

  • To help create your own solutions to problems. We will work together to discover the underlying reasons you are stuck and implement new helpful habits and/or thought patterns for your growth.

  • To challenge you when needed. You can agree, deny, or even modify the challenge.

  • To support all parts of you and guide you to reconnect with your highest Self through Internal Family Systems modality.

What do you expect from me?

  • A commitment to change. If you show up to these sessions and do nothing else, that is not enough. The outcome of this coaching is in the work you do between sessions.

  • A commitment to the session. Take the time to settle in. Please turn off your phone and be present in our session.

  • A commitment to yourself. Whatever actions are set forth as “homework,” take responsibility for them. Often the most significant realizations and clarity come in between sessions.

  • Bring an area of focus. It’s up to you to decide what we want to focus on in each session. Whether it be a physical goal (such as movement or diet) or a mental goal (such as tuning down your ruminating inner critic), think about what in your life feels most important for you to facilitate growth and help move you forward.

  • Be honest. You might feel like you are disappointing me by not doing what you said you would. That is called obligatory energy. Ditch that. It serves no one. What you do or don’t do, we learn from those experiences.

  • Challenge yourself. If you want to grow, then challenge yourself to up your game. No one makes changes without movement. Even small changes can make a BIG difference.

  • Enjoy the process. Taking life too seriously takes the fun out of living. Take the time to embrace your wins and your mistakes. Think of it as wins and lessons, not wins and losses.
